Children! Impressionable, innocent, enthusiastic, eager to learn, and all different. In fact, if you believe that all children are identical—with the same interests, abilities, and size—thenChildren Moving is not the book for you. The authors of Children Moving, however, recognize that each child is unique. One size does not fit all! Thus,Children Moving guides you in the process of learning to teach a curriculum that is differentiated for a range of skill abilities and fitness levels. If all children were the same, we would be able to package a curriculum with the same games and the same gymnastic stunts and dances you would do with all of the children as if they were identical.Children Moving, on the other hand, introduces you to the reflective approach—a process of teaching that provides the background for you to adapt, adjust, and modify lessons so they are interesting and worthwhile for all of the children you teach—from the lowest to the highest skill and fitness levels. The ultimate goal, of course, is to guide youngsters in the process of becoming physically active for a lifetime. The lesson plans to accompany Children Moving, On the Move: Lesson Plans for Children Moving, are now available on the CREATE platform as an ExpressBook. I am working at an elementary school now. I purchased this book when I was in college. It is really helpful when I was planning to teach a motor skill, and having no idea what the next skill-level should be taught. The drills in the book also provide ideas for kids to practice the related skills as well.
Great book with great information! I haven't finished it just yet and while most textbooks are rather dull to read I don't feel that way with this one. This is a book that I will most definitely keep for future referencing.
Children Moving is about the individual creating skills and learning to control their bodies. Exercises to increase skills used in playing sports are abundant, although time is not devoted to the actual playing of these games during class. The thought is that by playing the game in P.E. most of the children are missing out on valuable time to practice and learn new skills. Teachers are encouraged to suggest to the child who wants to play a game that recess or after school or the weekends are perfect times to play the games that use the skills they have been learning. The book also contains sample curricula for the teacher, depending on the skills of the students and the time available for Physical Education. My interest in this book grew out of a need for physical education for my homeschooled children. We've always been an active family, but I wanted to have some exercises and activities that we could do on a daily basis. Being active everyday helps children be able to focus more and use up the excess energy that they always seem to have. I leave equipment out all day long so the kids can participate in the activity on their own as time permits. There are many activities that can be completed in your backyard, or inside your home depending on the space you have available. I look for those during the colder months. We also have access to gym space which has most of the equipment and space that we need for certain activities. I enjoy this approach to skill building and keeping children active. It's a far cry from what I experience in physical education in the public school system, and that is a very good thing.

It needs to be the actually book because I just got the virtual version and it was not as helpful as the real book that's why it gave it two stars but it actually is a good book for teaching and not just if you want to be a pe teacher
This was a required text for me elementary PE class but it was full of good ideas and activities for a PE class. I found it very useful and got most of my lesson plan ideas right from it
